Disney in Concert: A Silly Symphony Celebration

Disney in Concert: A Silly Symphony Celebration is a tuneful and colorful celebration of groundbreaking cartoons produced at the Walt Disney Studios between 1929 and 1939. During the production of these Academy Award-winning shorts, Walt perfected the skills essential to the creation of his first feature film, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937), with developments in the use of color, special effects, character animation, music and storytelling that continue to influence the art of animation today. Now, 85 years after their debut, Walt Disney’s Silly Symphonies return to the big screen to delight audiences of all ages, accompanied by their original musical scores performed live by the Golden State Pops Orchestra under the baton of the shows World Premiere Conductor, Maestro Steven Allen Fox.

The music from Disney films has been making Disney fans’ hearts sing for decades, but today we announced a special event that you won’t want to miss at D23 EXPO 2015— Disney in Concert: A Silly Symphony Celebration,  hosted by Leonard Maltin. Our friends at Disney Music Emporium have so much planned throughout D23 EXPO 2015, but the concert is the highlight. To ensure that as many guests are able to see the concert as possible, two 70-minute presentations have been announced for Sunday, August 16—one at 11 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m., both in Stage 23. Disney in Concert: A Silly Symphony Celebration  will feature a 32-piece orchestra celebrating the Silly Symphony animated short films and their accompanying music, hosted by film historian Leonard Maltin. Fans will delight in watching selected Silly Symphony shorts from Disney’s archives while the music is performed live in synchronization with the picture, presented using high-quality, newly restored digital film masters. The music will be performed as it would have been recorded during those historic days at the Disney Studios on Hyperion Avenue in the 1920s and ‘30s. This very special concert event will showcase the music of the Three Little Pigs ,  The Old Mill , and many other classics with conductor Steven Allen Fox.

The sibling songwriting team of Richard and Robert Sherman penned some of the most memorable melodies in the Walt Disney songbook and helped to create a soundtrack to the lives of multiple generations.  A quintet of dynamic vocalists and a children’s chorus join the GSPO in this family-friendly concert celebrating the music that defined the sound of Disney.  Selections include Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Winnie The Pooh and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as well as a medley of recognizable themes from Disney parks and rides and a medley of the duo’s 1950’s Rock and Roll hits.

Monster Music

  • El Segundo Performing Arts Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

On Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 7:00pm the El Segundo Concert Band (ESCB) will present “Monster Music.” This Halloween themed concert will feature great “monster” movie scores and other family-scary music. Halloween is always an exciting time of the year for kids, so why shouldn’t it be for kids-at-heart as well. The ESCB created this annual event for that very reason: to bring children and adults together for a night of fun. Included in the evening’s festivities will be a costume contest, so don’t be afraid to dress up.

Highlights of the performance will include The Nightmare Before Christmas, Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, “Love Remembered” and The Mummy, which will be performed to scenes from the film. Godzilla Eats Las Vegas is a jaunty and comical musical take on the Godzilla movie concept composed and created by Eric Whitacre, known for his innovative virtual choirs. “Love Remembered” is the hopeless love theme from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, composed by Wojciech Kilar and arranged by ESCB’s very own Conductor, Steven Allen Fox.

ALSO INCLUDING:

Night on Bald Mountain, Danse Infernale and The Witch and the Saint.
